The Makalu Base Camp Trek is designed to leave you with a genuine experience  and views that are so delightful, three weeks won’t seem enough.  After climbing the peak, and looking down then in wonder at the Khumbu Valley, you ‘ll be privy to one of Nepal’s best kept secrets. Every bit as rewarding as the popular Khumbu Valley to the west, the Barun Valley approach to Makalu Base Camp is one of Nepal’s many unsung treasures. This trek visits one of the most remote, untouched, and pristine territories of Nepal.

The ten-day walk-in from the airstrip at Tumlingtar in the Arun Valley is as challenging as any, and the 3500m climb to Shipton Pass from the suspension bridge over the Arun river between Num and Sedua will have the fittest trekker’s heart pounding. On the other hand, the views from the pass and from above Base Camp in the southwest spur of Makalu itself, are unsurpassed anywhere in the Himalaya.
